Lafayette College has committed to diverting 40% of waste from the landfill by 2030 and 60% by 2035, and to do this, has expanded several recycling streams on campus. Focusing on reduction of waste and circularity of materials throughout campus operations and individual action is key to achieving our goal.
Lafayette has bins specifically for hard-to-recycle items on campus through TerraCycle. These include bins next to ECO Cafe for pens, pencils, markers, oral waste, snack wrappers and candy wrappers.
It is important that specialty wastes from departments are recycled and disposed of properly. Environmental Health and Safety can help make sure department-specific waste gets where it needs to go. Department ink cartridges and K-Cups can also be recycled through programs on campus.
