Green Move In helps new students and families pack sustainability and recycle tough items easily. While boxes make packing easy, they often produce unnecessary waste during move in. Consider packing in reusable storage containers to decrease your overall waste. Additionally, school supplies, bedding, and electronics often come in heavy packaging – which can pile up, and used to do so on campus. While unpacking, bring rubbish like plastic, paper, Styrofoam, and cardboard into the PODs placed near residence halls. Or, alternatively, thrift for what you need at our campus thrift store once you get to campus!

In past years we’ve recycled almost 3 TONS of cardboard, plastic bags and Styrofoam, and disposed of 15+ tons of waste. Let’s try to decrease our overall waste and recycling by packing in reusable storage containers and purchasing items with minimal packaging.

Orientation goes by fast. The Office of Sustainability wants to make move-in as easy as possible. Recycling PODS allow students to recycle cardboard, Styrofoam, and plastic bags 24/7 in mid-late August.

Sustainability Interns will be stationed at the PODS during Move In weekend. Please stop by or email sustainability@lafayette.edu if you have any questions about the process! The five recycling PODS will be located near: Conway House, Watson Courts, Watson Hall, Ruef Hall and Bailey Health Center.
