The Office of Sustainability offers Lafayette students the opportunity to serve as peer-educators, help execute campus-wide events, promote sustainability through outreach and action, track sustainability performance and more. We foster fellowship opportunities and paid intern positions.
Lafayette students who are passionate about sustainability, and are interested in serving as a peer leader, may apply to work for the Office of Sustainability. Applications are usually released during the end of the spring semester or during the summer for fall positions and in November for spring positions and Fellowships. Given the high level of interest, the application window is quite short, and interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Office of Sustainability interns and fellows craft meaningful programming, promote a culture of sustainability, track our sustainability performance and advance our carbon neutrality goals.
Sustainability Impact Fellows focus on meaning policy and operational efficiencies that drive transformative change on campus. The Sustainability Impact Fellow program started in Summer 2022. Learn more about Sustainability Impact Fellows.
Our Office of Sustainability interns work in 6 teams during the academic year: Communications, Eco Rep Coordinators, Outreach & Engagement, Metrics & Reporting, Thrift Store and a Compost Team. Each team consists of 3-10 interns, and help facilitate different parts of the Office of Sustainability’s campus mission. Students can also work at LaFarm, working on food production, research and programming. Learn more about jobs at LaFarm.
Meet our 2025-26 Office of Sustainability interns here.
During the 2025 – 2026 academic year, about 40+ students returned or were selected to serve as student interns and fellows.
Yes, these are paid leadership positions through the Office of Sustainability. New interns are paid a starting wage of $9/hour and typically work 3-10 hours/week during the academic year. Fellows are paid $10/hour and work 10 hours/week during each semester and 36 hours/week during the summer with Lafayette housing provided.
Eco Reps are peer-to-peer sustainability leaders in residence halls and off-campus houses throughout campus. Eco Reps educate residents and help foster sustainable habits and life-long behavior change in Lafayette’s living communities that also contribute to our campus sustainability priorities and 2035 carbon neutrality and waste commitments. Anyone can be an Eco Rep and no previous experience is required, although a commitment to team meetings and projects on campus is necessary. These positions are paid a stipend each semester and typically require a commitment of 3-4 hours per week. Learn more about Eco Reps here.
Sustainability Chairs are leaders who guide their chapter’s sustainability initiatives and ensures that their chapter house is operationally set up for success for sustainable practices. Having Sustainability Chairs for every chapter ensures that all fraternal organizations can engage in environment stewardship, make a positive impact on the campus community, and foster lifelong sustainable habits.
