Are you interested in being a leader in sustainability on campus? Do you have a passion for the environment you want to share with others in your residence halls? Become an Eco Rep for your house or hall!

Eco Reps are peer-to-peer sustainability leaders in residence halls, greek houses and off-campus houses throughout campus. Eco Reps educate residents and help foster sustainable habits and life-long behavior change in Lafayette’s living communities that also contribute to our campus sustainability priorities and 2035 carbon neutrality and waste commitments.

Eco Reps make tangible impact on sustainability in residence halls through four main categories:

  1. Residential-Based Operational Success: On a weekly basis, Eco Reps perform “rounds” in their building to check for operational functionality and suggest improvements to align behaviors with infrastructure processes. They check waste closets, water bottle refill stations, lighting and more.
  2. Outreach Initiatives: Eco Reps plan and execute 3 sustainability activities/events each semester to improve habits.
  3. Campus Events: Eco Reps lead and participate in campus-wide sustainability initiatives. In the fall they participate in Green Move In, Game Day Football Challenge, and a Sustainability Month Event. In the spring they participate in Game Day Basketball, Earth Month/Fest, and Green Move Out. Eco Reps also perform one Waste Audit a semester.
  4. Sustainable Living Certificate: Eco Reps implement and certify the SLC in their residence halls. (learn more about the SLC here! Any student can be Sustainable Living Certified)

Looking to become a part of the Eco Reps Leadership Program on campus? Apply to join the team! Eco Reps meet bi-weekly all together to discuss projects and participate in professional development. Eco Reps contribute on average 3-4 hours per week towards their roles.
