Lafayette is committed to achieving a 40% diversion rate from the landfill by 2030 and 60% by 2035. Lafayette works to decrease the amount of waste sent to the landfill, so please check the other pages to ensure your items are not recyclable. Black trash bins are located across campus.

What is considered trash?

Aerosol cans Mirror or window glass
Anything contaminated with food waste Paper plates and cups
Blue glass Paper towels, napkins, and tissues
Ceramics Photographs

Where do I put my trash?

  • In any trash bin located around campus (in residence hall waste closets, academic buildings, or outside)
  • Indoor trash bins will typically be black/gray or labeled with black signage
  • Outdoor trash bins will be labeled “trash”

What should the bin setup look like?

  • Trash bins will always have black bags inside of them.
  • Trash and recycling bins should always be next to each other, not one alone.
  • If you see the setup is not as described, please put in a work order here.
