Every April, we celebrate and educate on sustainability initiatives and themes throughout the month in recognition of Earth Day.

Sustainability is intertwined into many disciplines, themes, and ideas. During Earth Month in April, our campus community brings these themes together to showcase the importance of sustainability education and initiatives in recognition of Earth Day.

Explore the 30 events offered this April 2025 below sponsored by over 25 different clubs, departments and organizations. Events range from speaker presentations, to activities, to celebrations and more. Get involved to learn and engage with the Lafayette and local community.

This event will be the grand opening of a new seed library housed at NNC! We will have a presentation from Amirah Mitchell, who is the founder of Sistah Seeds and a farmer, seedkeeper, and community educator, to learn about seed saving and its environmental and cultural importance. Then, we will have an all-season garden planning workshop led by NNC’s Urban Gardening Program Coordinator, Pam Ruch. Alicia Kennedy is a food and culture writer, tackling topics of food justice, politics and the challenges within our local, national and global food systems. Kennedy's 2023 book, No Meat Required is a bestselling culinary and cultural history of plant-based eating in the United States that delves into the subcultures and politics that have defined alternative food. Come out learn about seed saving and see LaFarm's new Delware Nation seed saving garden. We will be cleaning and planting Judy's heirloom kale seed while discussing the importance of seed keeping. Everyone is encouraged to bring a "seed story" from their life or ancestry to share with the group. Which dorm can recycle the most cans? From Sunday, April 20- Sunday, April 27, compete in an aluminum can collection challenge between residence halls. Bring your empty cans to the designated bin on your floor next to the recycling bins -- each can earns 1 point for your dorm.
