Although you may be in #vacaymode, you can still practice sustainable habits when at home or on vacation throughout the summer. We compiled a list of our sustainable summer tips for you (and the earth) to enjoy your break.

  • MAKE AN EFFORT TO PACK LIGHT.

Try packing only the necessities when going on trips. Heavy luggage in cars and planes uses more fuel.

  • LEAVE YOUR DESTINATION BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT.

When spending time outdoors, remember to clean up after yourself before you leave. Try following the 7 Principles to Leave No Trace to help the natural environment flourish and to leave the space so others can enjoy it as well.

  • BRING YOUR REUSABLES!

It’s easy (and often necessary) to stop for coffee and water while traveling. Avoid necessary plastic waste by bringing your own water bottle and travel coffee cup. There are even mugs that pack down into your pocket!

  • LOOK FOR GREEN JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS.

Interested in a sustainability career? Make mom and dad proud by exploring career paths over the summer. There are many great resources including Cool Works and Environmental Careers.

  • LEARN MORE ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.

Use your extra time at home or traveling learning about the impacts of climate change through documentaries. Our recommendations include, Under the Dome, Coal Rush, The Gleaner’s Kitchen, and An Inconvenient Truth.  Or find a topic you are passionate about and explore the documentaries out there!

  • SHOP ORGANIC, LOCAL PRODUCE AT THE FARMERS MARKET.

Summer is  booming tome for Farmers Markets all over the United States. Support your local farmers by shopping for groceries at your local farmers market.

Regardless of how you spend your summer, try to keep the earth in mind and enjoy your time away!
