Each spring, Lafayette College participates in Campus Race to Zero Waste, a national competition to reduce waste and increase recycling on college campuses. In 2024, the 8-week challenge runs from January 28-March 23.

Do your part by practicing waste minimization strategies and recycling/composting properly on campus (we hope you’ll do this all year long!):

Waste Minimization
  • Use a reusable water bottle at the refill stations around campus instead of plastic bottled water
  • Take food to go from Upper or Marquis through the Reusable Clamshell Program
  • Bring your own mug to Eco Cafe, Skillman, Gilberts, Wawa and Mojo
  • Bring your own reusable cutlery, straw, and tote bag when you go out
  • Buy in bulk rather than singular, individually packaged items
  • Shop at the Campus Thrift Store rather than buying items new
Recycling & Composting
Engagement
  • Get Sustainable Living Certified to learn about more actions you can do on a daily basis (and get prizes!)
  • Earn punches in your Sustainable Punchcard for actions you do across campus and for attending sustainability events!
  • Meet your Eco Rep on your hall and reach out with any questions you might have. Learn more about Eco Reps here!
  • Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in events on campus focused on waste and recycling, such as Game Day Basketball, the Campus Thrift Store, and more! See details below.
